A quick and irresistible sweet and salty holiday dessert featuring a buttery toffee layer, crisp saltines, and a smooth chocolate topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sleeve saltine crackers (about 35-40 crackers)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Holiday sprinkles, for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a 10×15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil and lightly grease.
  2. Arrange the saltine crackers in a tight, single layer to completely cover the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat.
  4. Once melted, bring the mixture to a rolling boil. Stir constantly and boil for exactly 3 minutes, ensuring you scrape down the sides to prevent crystallization.
  5. Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the saltines. Use a spatula to spread it and cover all crackers.
  6. Bake for 5 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool on a rack for 5 minutes.
  7. Meanwhile, place chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Microwave in 1-minute intervals on medium power, stirring between each, until almost melted. Stir until smooth.
  8. Pour the melted chocolate over the baked crackers and spread evenly to completely cover. Immediately top with sprinkles.
  9. Allow the toffee to harden at room temperature or refrigerate until completely set. Peel off the foil and break into pieces to serve.
