Deliciously vibrant biscuits with a buttery flavor, perfect for Halloween festivities.

Ingredients

  • 480g plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 339g unsalted butter, softened
  • 280g caster sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Orange and black food colouring

Instructions

  1. Place butter and sugar in electric mixer bowl. Mix on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, incorporating completely before adding the next. Add vanilla.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add half of flour mixture to wet ingredients. Mix on low until just combined. Scrape down bowl.
  5. Add remaining flour mixture. Mix on low until incorporated.
  6. Divide dough in half. Add orange food colouring to one half, black to other. Mix until color is uniform.
  7. Form dough into balls, wrap in cling film, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  8. Roll dough between parchment paper to 5mm thick rectangles. Chill again.
  9. Stack dough sheets and roll tightly into a spiral. Chill for 20 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 170C.
  11. Slice biscuits 3mm thick. Arrange on parchment-lined baking tray.
  12. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Cool and enjoy!

Notes

Chill dough thoroughly to ease rolling and slicing.
Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors.
Roll dough tightly to achieve neat spirals.
Bake until set but not browned.
