  • 40 oz strawberry pie filling
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 15.25 oz golden cake mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish thoroughly with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Hull and slice fresh strawberries into 1/2-inch thick pieces.
  4. Toss sliced strawberries with lemon juice.
  5. Pour strawberry pie filling into the prepared baking dish.
  6. Gently fold in the fresh strawberries.
  7. Sprinkle the dry golden cake mix evenly over the strawberry filling layer.
  8. Whisk vanilla extract into the melted butter in a small bowl.
  9. Pour the melted butter mixture evenly over the top of the cake mix.
  10. Place the baking dish in your preheated oven.
  11. Bake for 35-45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the cake portion comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs.
  12. Remove the baking dish from the oven.
  13. Let the cake cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  14. Scoop into bowls.
  15. Top with optional whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Grease your baking dish well to prevent sticking.
Tossing fresh strawberries with lemon juice brightens their flavor.
Do not stir the dry cake mix into the fruit layer; just sprinkle it evenly.
Allow the cake to cool for 10-15 minutes for the best texture.
